Yes, my little buggy friends who have been making me crazy this summer flying around my kitchen. I couldn't get rid of them, until I saw Kim's post on this. Apparently, she's been having buggy problems, too.
She said to get a bottle of apple cider vinegar, with about 1/4 or 1/3 of the vinegar left. Cover the top with cellophane (press n' seal works best), and poke a hole in it. Within 1/2 hour, there were 5 bugs sitting on the top, within 1 hour, they were all over it. Within 3 days, I had about 50 in the bottle. Where do they come from? I have no idea. But they ignored everything else in my kitchen, and went straight to this stuff. Yay!
I just had to do this same thing! I could NOT get rid of those pesky things, but the vinegar worked like a charm - thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteadd a drop or 2 of dishwashing liquid and they'll get stuck in the vinegar. I've been doing this all summer (over-load on tomatoes this year) and it does work.
ReplyDeleteWho knew? So much for the old saying about catching more flies with honey than with vinegar!
ReplyDeleteThe insect have been terrible this year for some reason. Going to my son's football game are an adventure. You spend most of the time batting away the bugs!!
ReplyDeleteWe were just discussing this last night and couldn't remember if it was vinegar that was used to attract and kill those pesky little buggers. Thanks, I'm off to set my trap!
ReplyDeleteI've had problems with them too! Balsamic Vinegar works as well, that's what I've been using. However, the apple cider is cheaper! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had those this year...knock on wood...but have in the past. Nice to know what works...
ReplyDeleteI am so going to do this. These little critters have been bothering us for the past couple of weeks and I have never had a problem with them before. Thanks for passing it along.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
discusting arent they? We use a similar method here. Dang fruit flies can really be irritating, no?
ReplyDeleteThis was us last year - luckily - knock on wood - we have not had many this year. You also buy a pretty ceramic fruit fly trap at gardeners.com and then you don't have to see the little buggers!
ReplyDeletei'm having this problem too. i've tried this trap with regular vinegar and i caught a few but there are hundreds left. i wonder if the apple cider vinegar works better.
ReplyDeleteWHERE do they come from... darn bugs! they are nuts!
ReplyDeletei just did the same thing the other night but with red wine (had heard taht worked)!
Yes, we've had to do that before....I hate bugs! Love seeing them caught in the bottle, though!

I know this is an old post but wanted to let you know, they are probably drain flies and are coming from your kitchen drains. Yuck I know :( Here is some more information for you: http://www.pestproducts.com/fliesdrains.htm
