My Other Favorite Breakfast

This is my other favorite breakfast (to see the first one, click here):

2 Scrambled eggs
1/4 cup red bell pepper
1/2 cup chopped spinach
Fry in a little bit of coconut oil and sprinkle with Turmeric, 2 TB salsa, 1/8 c. shredded cheese, salt and pepper.
Top with 1/4 avocado, sliced

Turmeric is a spice that is extremely healthy.  Here is the one I use Simply Organic Turmeric. There is a long list of health benefits, which includes lowering inflammation, promoting healing, fighting alzheimer's disease and cancer, and it's good for your skin.  I also take these Turmeric Supplements.

My Favorite Breakfast

This is my favorite breakfast:

Cold quinoa
Raw Almonds
Sliced strawberries (or other fruit such as blackberries or raspberries)

I have never been a big fan of almond milk, because it just seems thicker and not as refreshing as milk.  I love coconut milk and find it to be a great substitute for milk.

What I'm Reading: The Hormone Cure

Does any of this sound familiar to you?

I am in my early 40s.  I had been exercising and eating right in my 30s, so I expected when I turned 40 that life would just keep on getting better.  Then I fell flat on my face.  I am a chronic stress person, and why  not? Keeping up with kids, a husband, a household, a job, and school (among other things on the long list, ME BEING LAST on the list) is a big burden.

And I ran out of gas big time.  The harder I tried to recover from my stress and lack of energy, the more NOTHING HAPPENED.  I kept getting more tired,  not sleeping, migraine headaches, acne, blood pressure going higher, got sick a lot, feeling down, and gained more weight than I have ever gained, particularly on my stomach.

I went into hyper-vigilance mode:  If I eat and exercise perfectly, I will rebound.  Nope.  Because really, that is stressful and puts a lot of pressure on myself at a time when I have zero energy.

Doctors would do blood tests and tell me I'm perfectly healthy.  And then hand me a prescription for anti-depressants, anxiety medication or ADHD medication.  I would try to explain to them why I have symptoms of depression, BUT I'M NOT DEPRESSED!!

All of this was very discouraging, because I knew my hormones were whacked out.  But our health care system pays zero attention to women's hormones.  It's bizarre and harmful, because the medications they were giving me were making the problem worse.

My friend gave me Sara Gottfried's book The Hormone Cure: Reclaim Balance, Sleep and Sex Drive; Lose Weight; Feel Focused, Vital and Energized Naturally With the Gottfried Protocol, and I love it.  It has questionnaires of symptoms that can help you diagnose what hormone problem you might be having, and then detailed explanation of how our hormones work, along with a healthy plan to help restore balance to our bodies, and blood tests we can ask our doctors to perform.

As I suspected, my hormones are a complete disaster.  I have made another appointment with my doctor to do testing, I have quit taking my medications (talk to your doctor before YOU decide to do this), I quit drinking alcohol and caffeine (yes, these interfere with hormones), upped the nutrition on my diet which no longer includes sugar, started yoga and meditation, and added a few supplements to the diet.
